Willy

Willy

Dr. Schulz,

We are very pleased with Willy’s treatment and recovery from cruciate ligament surgery.  We got a thorough description of the injury, why and how it most likely occurred, an explanation of the options for treatment and the likely outcomes and excellent instructions for caring for him during his recovery.  At two months following surgery, he’s accompanying us on walks in the woods, getting into and out of the car with no assistance and jumping up on our bed for his daytime naps.  Thank you very much.

I was reluctant to put my dog through the process of the tie back procedure for his laryngeal paralysis however after meeting Dr. Schulz and experiencing the high level of professionalism of all the staff at Peak Veterinary Referral Center, I felt more at ease with electing the surgery. The most noticeable observation about the quality of care was how my dog felt comfortable and trusted all the staff there. It is almost as if he knew he was in good hands. The surgery was a success and he has come through with flying colors! He is back to his old self and has an extension on his life thanks to all the excellent care he has received. Thanks for offering such awesome care.

Dear Dr. Schulz,Sargeants memorial card cropped

Sarge gained 3 years of mobility thanks to the surgery you performed to add the plate to his leg. I will always be so grateful for the success of that operation and the gift of such a wonderful surgeon. It was a pretty remarkable recovery and a risky choice, but Sarge was so patient and strong.

Thank you for this gift. It is a hard adjustment when you lose such an important part of your life. He was my anchor. But we had so many years of love and adventure.

Thank you for your part in Sargeant’s life.

With love and gratitude,

Janet

Dear Kurt, Alicia, Theresa, Wendy, Michelle and anyone else who helped Juneau, the “baby” golden retriever,

Juneau is doing great! Yay! Thank you, thank you, for your good work and care of both my dog and me. I never thought he would be doing so well after his horrible encounter with a truck. We are both MUCH BETTER! You fixed that multi-busted rear femur and helped Veremedy heal up his ankle wound.

You were so kind to me, too with all my nervous little questions, even bringing me a nice hot cup of coffee as I processed the shock of looking at Juneau post-surgery.

We went to Maine last weekend and played on the beach. Juneau, believe it or not, had never been in the waves before. He’s a rowdy thing so after one or two run-aways, he was STOKED to PLAY!

Thanks again!

I thank you so much for your help in saving my best friend!!!    You have given us the priceless gift of more time together!!!

The caliber of care she received at Peak is like nothing we knew even existed and we are so grateful to have been referred to you in our time of need.  The entire
staff from the people at the front desk to the support staff and of course YOU the doctor and surgeon have not only cared for Kita but also for us, her family!!!  You were always available with updates and information throughout the entire process day or night.  You gave us the gift of knowing, regardless of the outcome, that she was in the best possible hands that she could be in.

For all of this we are thankful!

Dr. Schulz and Staff:

Just a note to let you know Earl is doing so well. He limped after surgery, on lead most of the time, for 3 months. He has exercised regularly and walks with us a lot. Earl isn’t limping at all now. About October we let him run freely and he improved since then.

Thank you for helping him,
Anne T Moore

I just wanted to thank you all again — especially Johanna and Dr. Schulz — for the care you provided for my cat Agua over the last couple weeks.

We’re back in DC.  I took Agua up to see Dr. Lotsikas yesterday.  He removed some of the stitches, and I have an appointment here in town with my usual vet to get the rest removed next week.

I really appreciated the referral to Dr. Lotsikas.  He spoke highly of Dr. Schulz as a mentor and colleague.  Thanks so much for the referral.

You all have been great.  I’m thrilled that we got clean margins on her surgery – I was worried there for a few days, watching what looked like a new tumor growing on her jaw.  But Dr. Lotsikas decided that it’s just residual tissue being pushed together by the sutures.  So hopefully, fingers crossed,  we’re done with squamous cell carcinoma.

Agua is curled up on my desk while I work today. She is wearing her cone for another week or 10 days, much to her chagrin.  But I keep telling her, it could be a lot worse.

Many thanks for everything.

Leigh Dingerson

Dear Dr Schulz,

This note is to thank you once again for all the care you, your colleagues, and staff gave to our Bear during the 24+ hours he was with you. I truly appreciate the time you spent with us and your unending patience as I asked the same questions multiple times! Between your skills as a doctor, I know Bear couldn’t have been in better hands. Again many thanks to your wonderful staff.

I wanted to personally thank you all for the extraordinary care you provided for my Calli! Because of your efforts and expertise I feel Calli will lead a full and active lifestyle!

More importantly each of you exhibit a genuine care and concern for Calli during and after her surgery along with an acute understanding of the emotional stress I was going through for a much loved member of my family.

It was well worth the ride from New Hampshire and I would highly recommend Kurt and team to anyone who seeks the best in veterinarian surgical care.

With respect and gratitude always.

We dreaded Sheena’s surgery but after meeting the staff and talking to Dr. Kurt we knew she was in good hands. When we picked her up the next day the same courtesy was extended to us. All staff was interested in answering questions and making sure we understood post surgery care.

We have recommended your facility to friends and family knowing they will be as pleased as we have been.

Thank you,
Eleanor

Moe

From The Brown Family (2, 3 and 4 legged members):

Today we brought the staff doughnuts from a local bakery (Rambachs) in Plattsburgh, NY.  They are called Yum-Yums, after you taste them, you will figure out how they came up with the name. They represent a small token of our appreciation and are given in honor of Moe.  We have lived near Plattsburgh for 13 years and until recently was unaware of the existence of Peak Vet Referral Center, which I think was a good thing.  We had 4 dogs: Bailey (Border Collie), Sadie (Black Lab), Moe (Golden) and Teddy (Golden).  Over the past four weeks all of our dogs except for Teddy have made a visit to the facility.

We have interacted with the following groups/departments:  Receptionist, Client Services, Radiology, Surgery, Nursing, Oncology and Ophthalmology.  Just like every client that walks through your doors, we love our pets as you see they are not simply dogs, they are our dogs, our family and an important part of what make us The Browns.

Bailey’s visit was the most straight forward for us, as it was primarily a follow-up from the care given by our local Vet. Sadie-was a bit more complicated, as she is now our Tripawd and is doing well. Moe-Most likely had Hemangiosarcoma, that was just very recently displaying symptoms and we had to make a very difficult decision that all pet owners must eventually make.

Without exception, at every turn, every Colleague from every department treated our dogs and us with the utmost respect and display of professionalism.  We asked many questions in-person and over the phone to help us make the best decisions.  Not only did individuals take the time to talk with us, sometimes just to sit with us as we waited for more information or waited for the surgery to be completed.  At no time did we ever feel hurried or rushed.  Even at our worst of times, it appeared that everyone knew what was going on with us and realized how difficult of a time we were having once the final decision was made.  The support and sympathy displayed to us was readily visible.

A quick story about Moe: Our eldest son, Matthew brought home a dozen Krispy Kremes .  He had one that evening, and placed the box on the island in the kitchen.  The next morning, that box which was now empty was at the top of the stairs next to Moe who was licking the box, happy as a clam.

We know Moe will be looking down on each of you hoping that crumbs are dropped on the floor, or grab one when you are not looking. Our only request is to make sure that Kurt has at least one and that he takes one home to his wife.

Many thanks for all that you do each and every day and have done for our family.

Libby and David Brown

For everybody who helped Patricia rebound, thank you, with all of my heart. You were all just wonderful. There’s only one thing I would have changed, that is you need to take “Peak” off your sign and replace it with “great people work here!”

Thank you all so very much!

Jack

Jack

Dear Kurt and Everyone at Peak,

We cannot thank you enough for returning our Jack to us, whole and sound. He is recuperating wonderfully; looks forward to meals, short walks, and rolling inthe snow. His normal breathing is music to our ears. We are so appreciative of the wonderful care he received from everyone…(as well as the care Katherine and Ireceived). Kurt, thank you for bringing our boy back to us- we are so very fortunate to have you in the area. Thank you all for your support at a pretty rough time- your unflagging optimism helped tremendously. Jack is with us now thanks to your skill and will- it was clear everyone was pulling for him. He may be a senior citizen but he doesn’t that yet! : )

Best,

Katherine and Georgia

Dear Dr. Schulz and team,

Thank you so much for your help in diagnosing Max, we really appreciated the excellent service and felt secure and in good hands. Thank you for:

  • a prompt appointment
  • giving me enough time to make a decision I felt was right
  • making a diagnosis and devising a treatment plan
  • squeezing him into your (I am certain already busy) OR schedule

Even though we still have a long road ahead of us (that Max would like to run, but is only allowed to walk : )) We are optimistic and are hoping for long x-country ski tours with him again next year!

Thank you!

Logan

Logan

Hi Kurt,

The folks at Essex Vets suggested I should send you a photo of Logan and let you know how great she is doing, so in case they are correct, here is a photo of her jumping at the recent BOTC trial at the Shelburne Field House.  I apologize that it isn’t a better photo.  Logan’s TPLO was late June last year.  She went back to agility class about as soon as you cleared her to do so.  We continued with PT for a while.  She started trialing again in December, in Jumpers and FAST, and got Qualifying scores consistently, so I moved her up from Open jumpers to Excellent.  She finished her jumpers Excellent title at the BOTC trial 2 weeks ago.  Dr. Miguel (Francois) checked her out on Friday (regular check up and boosters) and said that he doesn’t think she is experiencing any pain or problems with that knee or leg.   We are looking forward to when the water in the lakes is warm enough to get her swimming again.

We are truly grateful to you and to Nancy, and to the very fine staff at PEAK, and we tell everyone about your excellent work on Logan.

Best,
Lee Ann Donner Hauenstein

Dear Drs. Goossens and Schulz, and staff,

Words cannot express our sincere appreciation for the outstanding attention given to our little girl, “Ginger”, 8/1 through 8/18. She has been home a little over two weeks and is recuperating wonderfully. Our thanks again for the warm, professional attention, the nice gifts from the staff and the beautiful Get Well card from Remy, (it’s on our ‘fridge). May God Bless You All!

For everything you’ve done, for being the special people that you are, thank you so very much.

Sincerely,

The Hulses: Ginger, Mariann, Bill, and Petey

Dear Dr. Hoy, Dr. Schulz, and Patty,

Ellen and I just wanted to send a quick note to thank you for taking such good care of Gus during his recent surgeries. Again, our many thanks.

Dear Dr. Knapik, Dr. Schulz, and the Fabulous Peak Staff,

I am happy to report that George is doing wonderfully on 3 legs and is back to his delicious, happy, goofy (he even runs!), spirited, playful self!!! We are so happy! Thank you for your patience and understanding with me as I came to terms with George’s different issues and challenges. The whole way through chemo to surgery…We knew we were in caring and super capable hands.

Warm regards,

Emily, Oliver, George, and Ellie

 ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Dear Dr. Schulz,

To you I send most heartfelt thanks. I am not certain that you will ever realize how much I appreciate the kindness that you and Dr. Murray have extended to me and my sweet companion, Charlotte. She means the world to me. She gets me out of bed and out of the house and together we enjoy life. She came to me one year ago out of the blue from halfway around the world (Guam) via a friend that knew I really needed to have Charlotte in my life and that Charlotte needed me, too. It has been a match made in heaven. I am very fortunate. Thank you so very much for fitting us into your busy schedule and for performing her rescue surgery. It has been a tough month for us both but she has been a great sport and I see her getting stronger every day. Your generosity of spirit will never be forgotten. I hope to return the favor somehow, someday.

Best regards,

Emily and Sweet Charlotte Pickle Pie

Dear Dr. Schulz, Anthi, Theresa, and Joanna,

Thank you for the compassionate care and treatment of Maija, our Finnish Spitz. She is recovering beautifully and as her breathing has been corrected, her personality has perked up and she is her old self again, even jumping in her favorite chair, which she had been too exhausted to try for the past several months.

The competence, reassurance and attention that we received made a scary experience much less so.

With gratitude and appreciation for your work,

Dear Peak Team,

Thank you so much for taking such WONDERFUL care of our Princess Lily and her invisibility cloak. Y’all immediately understood her nature and loved on her the way we do at home. Knowing she was in y’all’s hands gave us great piece of mind. I could not imagine taking her anywhere else for surgery. See you for round 2!

All our love & greatest thanks,

The Lindsey/Kondrlas

PS  Thank you for letting me hang out all day and for the updates!

 ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Dr. Schulz,

This is a much over-due update on our “Allie”.  Allie is great, she has the life she loved! She still swims once a week and does well with her ROM exercises (falls asleep).

When we started increasing our training Dr. Payson said, “If she’s tired or just doesn’t want to do something, “Stop”.  Allie has no “Stop” button, as I have to make the decision when to stop.

The last time we saw you for the check-up after surgery I remembered saying, “it’s OK if she is unable to do agility.” You said, “Don’t rule it out!” I never dreamed it could happen. Allie is like a little kid in a candy store when we go to practice. It’s hard to keep her calm even on the ride over! (She knows where we are going!!)

Last summer Allie had to have 2 other surgeries. One did slow us down and was not able to enter her in any trials until the end of September. Unfortunately it started raining so she was only able to run in one event. I couldn’t take the chance of her falling on the wet equipment or grass so I withdrew her.

We are presently getting ready for our first trial at the end of April. “Wish us luck!” Please tell everybody I said “thank you” for all the support they gave us while we were there. You have a great staff.

Thank you for saving our little girl!

Maryann, Bill, and “Allie” xxoo

Merlin

Merlin

For Dr. Kurt Schulz;

Some years ago, you did bilateral arthroscopy on my Labrador Merlin.  Your advice was “let him be a dog”  Some of the best advice I’ve ever gotten.  Merlin completed his Agility Trial Championship in February!!! Not bad for a dog with bilateral elbows.  He’s 9 now, you did the surgery at 14 months. He’s still sound, still competing in Agility, Rally, Barn Hunt, Hunt Tests, and Obedience.
Thanks!

Dear Kurt,
A long thank you for all you did for Sugar Magnolia. Your care and concern was unparalleled in my experience. This includes medical doctors. Finn and I were constantly astounded by your phone calls to check-in and I appreciated your discussing the various differential dx with me. In our book, you are tops and can’t thank you enough.
I hope you & your family are all well,

Joey

Joey

A big shout out to the whole staff at Peak , we came with such concern and worry about our 12 year old chocolate lab Joey and were put at such ease and taken incredible care of from everyone from the front desk to the back of the house . You see Joey isn’t just another dog, he came into our lives after a terrible tragedy, our 6 month old chocolate lab Ben was hit and killed in front of our house and we were so devastated, our only other lab Emma at the time was 5 and went into a Great Depression. But low and behold Joey came alone , filled some very big shoes , has been a trooper all his life and with the help of the whole staff at peak they have given us more time then we ever could of hoped for with our special angel of a boy. You guys are the greatest, and we can never thank you enough . Woof woof.
